Major Map

This is the class project for EDUC 761. My group members focus on helping freshman choose major and design their career path.

Wicked Problem

The transition from high school to college marks a significant milestone in a student's life, accompanied by newfound independence, academic challenges, and the beginning of career exploration. However, for many college freshmen, navigating the complexities of career exploration can be overwhelming and daunting. The problem at hand lies in effectively guiding these students through the intricate process of discovering their professional aspirations, understanding various career paths, and ultimately making informed decisions about their future. This needs analysis addresses the multifaceted challenges involved in providing guidance to college freshmen in their career exploration journey and proposes strategies to enhance support and empower students in this pivotal stage of their academic and professional development.

Motivations

Della is very young. Under China’s education system, scores are very important because she ignores her own interests and hobbies. Della is good at languages, and is very good at English. She also studied Japanese and Spanish after class. From this, Della also hopes to better understand her potential, find her own interests, and hopes that her interests can be related to her future career.

Painpoints

Unfamiliar with the subject: Della is not good at mathematics and does not know whether the subject of mathematics affects the choice of other subjects.
Unclear about her future career and lacks a sense of direction: Della doesn’t know what career she wants to pursue in the future. She just wants to find a high-paying career.
Parents have a strong desire to control
